Cinema allows us to experience stories featuring characters who undergo amazing adventures or profound tragedies, far away from what usually happens in our daily lives. Through epic, miserable, romantic, domestic, warlike or terrifying narratives, we also gain access to the different settings in which these stories unfold.
It is the images that allow us to mentally construct maps of cities and neighbourhoods, to move through unknown territories and to travel to paradisiacal places. One of the cities that has been most present in the history of cinema is New York. Even without having visited it, we recognise its streets, its urban profile and even the colours it takes on depending on the season.
Through scenes from different films, this proposal will introduce young people to the architecture of an iconic city that sometimes seems like a film genre in itself. After watching various film clips, we will work with shots, photographs and film images in a creative exercise that blends cinema and visual arts.
taller abierto is a collective formed by two architects that has been developing artistic and cultural projects since 2013. Among its activities are the organization of training courses for teachers, curating exhibitions, and educational workshops in museums and private institutions. Its work in the field of education also includes the production of teaching materials on different topics in physical and audiovisual support. For them, public space and the landscape can be a driving force for learning, that is why they also implement projects in which they are main characters.
