Coral Piñeiro is a new Galician filmmaker. She directed the short films Dores and Na pel da memoria (the latter, together with Laura Piñeiro) and is currently working on her first feature film, Da túa man para a miña, in collaboration with Fran Rodríguez Casal. She is co-founder of Memoria e Cinema, a collective of new filmmakers who explore memory, from the personal to the historical side. She also collaborates with various Galician festivals in the areas of programming and communication, and is a teacher in film education projects, such as the MICEscola at the Mostra Internacional de Cinema Etnográfico do Museo do Pobo Galego.
Vilagarcía-born filmmaker Coral Piñeiro (member of the Ceres Section jury) will share her conception of cinema with students and present two short films that demonstrate the medium’s ability to reveal that, behind the historical events silenced by the communities that experience and suffer them, there are only human beings: bodies and minds that inhabit the border between oblivion and perennial memory.

Dores responds to a very clear need: fighting against oblivion. This documentary collects the stories of four people who, in one way or another, were witnesses or collect testimonies of the consequences of Franco’s repression in Galicia. They all share a common goal: although the scars of the civil war are still open and the consequences of Franco’s dictatorship are still latent today, they fight to preserve historical memory and win the game of forgetting.
