ROUNDTABLE. TOWARDS OTHERNESS

The compatibility between standard models of production, distribution and programming and those that aim to create an ecosystem promoting biodiversity and content under-represented in conventional circuits appears to be a sign of the times. This panel proposes a dialogue on the objectives and aspirations of this alternative approach —a different perspective whose hallmarks are cinema, creativity, cultural promotion, community building, risk and opportunity.

Three professionals will share their points of view to enrich this discussion: Francisco Álvarez Ríos, an Ecuadorian filmmaker and film curator, artistic and programming director of the ‘Cámara Lúcida Festival’; Rodrigo Areias, a Portuguese filmmaker, screenwriter and producer, co-founder of ‘Bando à Parte’, specialised in diverse and daring auteur cinema with a proven track record of European and international impact; and Brais Romero, a film producer and distributor, founder of ‘La Machina’ —specialising in emerging auteur cinema and in promoting unorthodox creative works (from Spain and Galicia) that are under-represented in cinema circuits.

Our guests will discuss the umbilical links between production, distribution and programming in contemporary contexts. This proposal is designed to inspire new generations and to collectively rethink the conditions necessary to foster a robust, sustainable cultural diversity.
