Fantasy and horror films have breathed life into creatures that are part of our collective imagination and our worst nightmares. These beings, drawn from ancient legends, myths and literature and from creations devised specifically for the big screen, embody the fears and anxieties of humankind throughout the ages.
There are countless examples: from the stylised and ominous shadow of the vampire to menacing monsters of diverse origins and forms, not to mention those apparently ordinary characters who hide dark intentions. Beyond simply frightening us or making us tremble in front of them, those creatures are often used in the creative arts to explore the depths of the human soul, giving tangible form to the abstract through presences —fascinating, grotesque and iconic— that permeate the collective memory over the centuries.
With this context in mind, we offer a workshop aimed at children aged 8 to 12 to introduce mythical characters from the horror and fantasy genres through an art activity. This will involve creativity and imagination to design terrifying creatures that are both captivating and fascinating, based on well-known examples from the history of cinema.
taller abierto is a collective formed by two architects that has been developing artistic and cultural projects since 2013. Among its activities are the organization of training courses for teachers, curating exhibitions, and educational workshops in museums and private institutions. Its work in the field of education also includes the production of teaching materials on different topics in physical and audiovisual support. For them, public space and the landscape can be a driving force for learning, that is why they also implement projects in which they are main characters.
