MEETING WITH FRANCISCO ÁLVAREZ

As well as curating and presenting the ‘Carta Blanca’ programme awarded to Cámara Lúcida Festival (Ecuador), Francisco Álvarez will speak about a selection of his works: his pieces reflect his interest in the mechanisms of institutional representation, sound experimentation, performativity, memory, territory, archive and materiality. Following the screening, the filmmaker will take part in an interactive discussion with the festival’s programming team and the audience.

Francisco Álvarez Ríos (Ecuador, 1991) is a sound and visual artist, filmmaker, researcher, programmer, and founder and artistic director of the Cámara Lúcida Festival (Quito-Cuenca-Guayaquil) —a festival that demonstrates a strong commitment to championing creativity, the arts and socio-ideological issues… Francisco has curated at Latin American festivals and institutions such as STRANGLOSCOPE (Brazil, 2019), the Corriente Film Festival (Peru, 2018); the Ultracinema Festival (Mexico, 2019–2020); Frontera Sur. FIC de No Ficción (Chile, 2020), among many others. His short films have been screened at IDFA (Netherlands), Festival des Cinémas Différents et Expérimentaux de Paris (France), CROSSROADS (United States), Beijing International Short Film Festival (China) and more.
