The 9th Edition of Novos Cinemas will open and close with two Galician feature films. We are raising the curtain with The Rim, a piece in which the multifaceted and highly personal cinematic vision of Alberto Gracia continues to take form. In his third feature film, the director explores the post-industrial and ghostly landscape of his hometown, Ferrol, through the surreal drift of characters as marginal as magnetic. We close 9th edition with The Distance You Left—a project advised by LAB 06—, the feature film debut of Paula Veleiro. It is a work that connects the filmmaker’s biography with her parents to illustrate and reflect on our sentimental journeys, on love and its exhaustion, on our weaknesses and strengths, on the understanding of what has been experienced and the healing power of life experience.
