Trained in Film Production at ECAM, Jesús Choya began working as a producer in 2021 at ‘[pico tres cine]’, focusing on the short film sector with projects that won the Biznaga de Plata Award in Málaga and the Méliès de Plata Award. After this project, he co-founded ‘SINCIO de pelis’ with Nacho Solana —a Cantabrian production company that aims to support new voices and radical perspectives; it is currently involved in the post-production on new films by Luis (Soto) Muñoz and Gloria Asla. In 2022, Jesús was selected as a Málaga Talent and joined Buenapinta Media, where he serves as executive producer on feature films such as Ciudad sin sueño (Guillermo Galo), winner of the SACD Award at Semaine de la Critique (Cannes Film Festival); Tre Ciotole (Isabel Coixet), the opening film at SEMINCI; Los domingos (Alauda Ruiz de Azúa), winner of the Concha de Oro Award at Festival de San Sebastián.

Jesús Choya has worked as a post-production coordinator on projects such as the series No me gusta conducir for HBO Max and the feature film Daniela Forever (Nacho Vigalondo). He has helped coordinate awards campaigns, collaborating with Netflix on the 2023-2024 Oscars and with Disney+ on its 2024 Spanish awards. In 2024, he was chosen by Variety as one of the ’10 Emerging Spanish Producers to Watch’. In 2025, he became head executive producer of LAZONA Zinema (a subsidiary location of LAZONA Group based in Bizkaia).

ECAM WORKSHOP WITH JESÚS CHOYA
WHAT’S NEXT? INNOVATIVE PRODUCTION AND FILMMAKING

In the middle of a paradoxical context where the democratisation of film production resources is greater than ever whilst funding channels are becoming increasingly narrow despite the number of projects, it has become essential to understand and design an ad hoc financing, production and distribution strategy for each film by seeking creative solutions beyond pre-established and ineffective conventions, particularly for the most radical audiovisual narratives and emerging voices.

In this seminar, led and delivered by Jesús Choya —an emerging producer and director of LAZONA Zinema who combines creative and risk-taking projects by emerging filmmakers with productions rooted in more conventional industry standards— we will explore possible ways to inspire new filmmakers towards their first original ideas, focusing on the role of the producer as an essential agent in creative support. We will also show real examples of common challenges and obstacles and will discuss the balance between industry and risk, as well as the present and future state of our film industry. We will encourage participation to get practical resources and methods to help bring our projects to fruition.

We will discover doors that we can knock on and we will understand that we must create other opportunities to overcome the obstacles and frustrations of creating a first film with the certainty that another model is possible.
