Even the smallest festivals share the same concern: the difficulty of creating stable and sustainable international networks that foster a multicultural and transnational fabric. This networking is key to sharing experiences and resources, and gives more visibility to those forms of film expression often under-represented in standard exhibition circuits in spite of their ability to define both an identity and editorial focus. Filmmakers and creators face the challenge of spreading their work in an increasingly overwhelming context dominated by mainstream distribution policies. This roundtable aims to open up a space for horizontal dialogue to put strategies in common, explore potential collaborations and, above all, collectively consider how to foster synergies to help these films cross borders and reach a global audience.
Three film festival representatives will take part: Francisco Álvarez Ríos, artistic and programming director of the Cámara Lúcida Festival; Daniel Maciel, an anthropologist and researcher involved in the coordination and management of cultural projects and Portuguese film festivals; and Suso Novás, programming director and co-director of Novos Cinemas.
