
Jorge Quintela (Porto, 1981), graduated in Photography and Audiovisual in 2003 from the Escola Superior Artística do Porto, is a founding member of the production company Bando à Parte and works in cinema as a director and director of photography. As a director, he made his debut in 2010 with the fictional short film Ausstieg (Honorable Mention in the Experimental Competition at Curtas Vila do Conde), screened at several international festivals. Also in 2010, he premiered the documentary On the Road to Femina at IndieLisboa and internationally at the Clermont-Ferrand Festival. In 2013, he won the Grand Prize at Curtas Vila do Conde with Carosello, as well as the awards for Best Short Film and Audience Award at the Luso-Brazilian Film Festival.
His work has been presented at over 40 international festivals and showcases. He was the featured director in the Sangue Novo program at the 2015 Luso-Brazilian Film Festival. In 2024, short documentary Stop – Rehearsal Rooms for a Historical Materialism had its preview at the Porto/Post/Doc Film Festival.
WORKING CLASS HEROES is a project developed by Porto/Post/Doc in collaboration with Filmaporto – Film Commission and Fundación La Caixa / Caixa Forum. The project has two main objectives: to support film production about the working class who have built the city of Porto over time and to promote the production of new films that bring the voices of different filmmakers closer to their local territory and community.

The short documentary film Stop. Rehearsal Rooms for a Historical Materialism explores the history of the Shopping Centre Stop in the district of Bonfim, Porto, framing it within the materialist critique proposed by Walter Benjamin in his Arcade Project.
