Escola das Artes – Universidade Católica Portuguesa, located in the city of Porto, is specialized in arts, conservation and restoration, cinema, sound art, image and sound, animation, creative industries, photography and new media art. It is a reference organization on the peninsular and European university scene. It promotes the confluence between theory, research, curatorship, the professional sector and artists, proving that this is the way for educational projects aspiring to excellence and improving the cultural and socio-economic outlook of the territory in which they are developed.
Novos Cinemas invited Pedro Alves to share with our audience the singularities of this avant-garde project. He is the teacher and coordinator of the degree in Cinema at the Escola das Artes and deputy director and integrated researcher at CITAR (UCP), where he coordinates the focus area of Cinema and Visual Arts.
PhD in Audiovisual Communication from the Faculty of Sciences of Information of Universidad Complutense de Madrid (2015), Pedro Alves is Assistant Professor and Coordinator of the Degree in Cinema at the School of Arts – Universidade Católica Portuguesa (Porto). He is also Deputy Director and Integrated Researcher at CITAR (UCP), where he coordinates the focus area of Cinema and Visual Arts. He is a member of the ICONO14 Scientific Association (Spain) and the Screenwriting Research Network. He collaborated as trainer with the National Cinema Plan between 2015 and 2021. He has several publications and participation in national and international scientific events and projects, on topics such as cinema, screenwriting, narrative, education and creativity. He is the coordinator of the digital film literacy project “Insert”, funded by FCT (2022-2023). Since 2017, he works with UNESCO as an external consultant on activities and projects of the Creative Cities Network. He worked in cinema in the areas of Production and Screenwriting, having also participated in projects in the fields of Theatre and Music. Since 2021, he is a member of the Board of Teatro Experimental do Porto.
