My name is Ricardo. I have struggled to pronounce the letter R for 24 years, which has led me to repress my voice. This documentary essay is an intimate journey in search of my voice’s identity and the effort to liberate it, which is reflected in my personal journey back to my parents’ house. In this way, Rotacismo is presented as a documentary essay in which, little by little, the concept of voice becomes intertwined with that of identity. It also seeks to answer questions about invisibility, delayed voice development, and the complexity of self-construction, marked by disability and dissident sexuality.
