Weaving accounts of rural workers and fieldnotes of a couple of archaeologists, amateur footage and scientific drawings, legends, poems and songs, The Seasons is a journey through the real history and the tales of a region in southern Portugal, Alentejo, and a portrait of the people who have lived there.

Maureen Fazendeiro (1989, Créteil) is a director and screenwriter based in Lisbon. She studied literature, art and film at the Denis Diderot University in Paris. Her debut, Motu Maeva (2014), won awards at festivals such as Doclisboa and Valdivia and was followed by the short films Sol Negro (2019) and Les Habitants (2025), screened at international festivals and institutions such as MoMA and the Venice Biennale. She worked with Miguel Gomes as screenwriter and casting director on Grand Tour, and together they directed Diarios de Otsoga (2021), winner at Mar del Plata. In 2025 she presented her documentary As Estações in Locarno and was the subject of a focus programme at the Curtas Vila do Conde festival.
